In IVY -related news -- from a Nettwerk press release:

Nettwerk Productions (Canada) has joined forces with The Sarah McLachlan  Music Outreach and will subsequently release an album of children's music titled For The Kids ... on November 5th, 2002 in North America.

The Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach - An Arts Umbrella Project is a unique  school that offers free music education to inner city youth in Vancouver,  British Columbia. This new program represents a partnership between Sarah  McLachlan and Arts Umbrella, Canada's largest visual and performing arts  institute for young people ages 2 to 19.

...

Adam Schlesinger, of both IVY and Fountains of Wayne fame, says "For a lot  of kids, music is one of the first things you become truly passionate  about, and it can really help you to see the world in new and unexpected  ways." Schlesinger appears with his IVY bandmates on For the Kids, covering The Carpenters' classic "Sing."

Additionally, the making of the Tahiti 80 album (produced by Andy, and featuring a few snippets of his changing hairstyle) can be found here:

IVY are currently finishing up recording a cover of The Carpenter's "Sing" for a Nettwerk compilation of children's songs. Blame or cheer Adam for the song choice.

IVY 's collection of covers, Guestroom, is being released by Minty Fresh, on September 10. Due to Dominique's pregnancy, there are no tour plans -- but the band are considering a few one-offs this fall. More once they make some decisions!

The next Tahiti 80 album is also done! Andy spent two weeks in Portland, Oregon with the band, overseeing mixes with Tony Lash, who's a local. Look for that this October, also on Minty Fresh.

Finally, Andy's solo proejct, Brookville, is moving along apace: Macy's licensed one song for their fall season TV campaign, and labels from various countries have expressed interest. Everything's still at the discussion stage.

And finally finally, Fountains of Wayne have finished recording their next album (about 20 songs, says Adam) but they're waiting to pick a label before putting on finishing touches.

Two: Work has begun on new Paco songs, and a full-length Paco album will be done by the end of the summer.
Three: This is not official yet, but IVY 's cover album looks as if it'll come out on Minty Fresh, will be called Guestroom, and will come out in September.

News from the U.K.!
IVY 's "Edge Of The Ocean," their first U.K. single, has hit No. 40 on the U.K. Singles Chart -- which means IVY have gone Top 40! According to Andy, it was picked as single of the week for Radio One and is "A-Listed" on Radio Two, which means they're in heavy rotation on two of the biggest stations over there. Says Andy, "This is by far the most airplay IVY has gotten anywhere, ever."

Additionally, as this webmistress has discovered, "Edge" can also be heard on American Airlines's headset, amongst other generally acceptable (but nowhere near as cool) songs.

april 2002

Andy has finished recording his first solo record, and is going by the nom-de-plume of Brookville. The album is called Wonderfully Nothing, and here is the cover and reverse, with song list. Click on the photo for a larger version.

Song list:
1. Fleet
2. Walking On Moonlight
3. Sample From Heaven
4. Shine
5. Justine
6. Sweet Sensation
7. Tomorrow Is Gone
8. Summer Parade
9. Fais Dodo
10. Beautiful View
11. This Is The Last Time
12. This Is How It Ends

Andy recently wrote The IVY Vine List:

"My solo record is called Brookville. I found a manager last month and we are starting to send it (selectively) to labels. So it's just in the beginning stages. I am being realistic about which labels can really understand and work with a record like that."

Additionally, there is no tour currently scheduled. Long Distance comes out in Europe on April 22, but the band will not be touring to support it unless there is huge demand. And Fountains of Wayne are in the studio again anyway, so it would be difficult to assemble the band for such an effort.

But look out soon for their album of covers! They're still picking mixes, and once that's done, we should have more concrete information.

Here's what's happening in the IVY pop universe...

-- Andy is mastering his solo record.

-- IVY have finished recording the four covers they're working on for an upcoming special all-covers release. The four songs, which are being mastered at the band's Stratosphere Sound studios, are: "Let's Go To Bed" by the  Cure, "Streets Of Your Town" by the Go-Betweens, "Kite" by Nick Heyward and "Say Good-bye" by Papas Fritas.

-- Fountains of Wayne are also currently at Stratosphere Sound, recording new songs with Mike Deneen.

-- IVY have a song in the film Orange County; alas, it is not on the soundtrack.

-- Long Distance is slated to be released in Europe on April 22. IVY are scheduled to go over there for a 10-day promo tour at the start of April.

-- Andy recently produced an album for Mexican band Volovan, a band which recently opened for The Strokes in Mexico City. Their first single is on heavy rotation on Mexican Modern Rock radio.

-- Adam is producing some tracks for Fastball later this month at Stratosphere.

-- Stratosphere recently had Tenacious D over for tea and crumpets. Actually, for recording purposes.
